November/December 2004 Karen Hull, Johnson's East Greenhouse Manager The holidays are here! This is a wonderful time of the year. It's also a very busy time. Lots of shopping and decorating to do ... and the tree needs to be trimmed. We all have special memories of Christmases past. One of mine is going to my Grandmother's home. She loved poinsettias and had them everywhere. Now, when I see a poinsettia, I always think of Grandma. This tradition has been passed down from generation to generation in many families. Poinsettias are the most popular Christmas flower. So, when thinking about the decorations for Christmas, plan to use poinsettias. In Grandma's time, red poinsettias were mostly used. Then we had white and pink. Now along with these traditional colors we have yellows and marbles. Jingle Bells is very popular. Then there is Winter Rose, a very unusually shaped poinsettia. This season at Johnson's, we are introducing a "new" poinsettia. The Fantasy Poinsettia is a traditional white poinsettia sprayed with a new generation of dyes, giving it a brand new look! Depending on the colors used and the application technique, a wide variety of colors and styles can be created to complement any decor. The Fantasy Poinsettias are available in yellow, orange, blue, lilac, dark rose and a variety of color combinations. And if the idea of bold new colors isn't wild enough for you, Fantasy Poinsettias are also available with a special laser-cut, octagonal glitter to create a whole new sparkle for your holiday decorations. We welcome you to visit us at Johnson's during the holiday season. Our stores are completely decorated for Christmas and we have all sorts of tree trimming ornaments. Our greenhouses are filled with a huge selection of poinsettias. Come by and check out our Fantasy Poinsettias ... along with the more traditional poinsettias that Grandma would recognize!
