With fall here, we are now ready to get digging by planting new plants and dividing overgrown perennials. Keep in mind that this is an excellent opportunity to renovate your soil after a long hot summer. Doing this now will pay off with big rewards in the spring and will actually make your spring garden tasks easier. To renovate your soil, work in Cotton Boll Compost, Gypsum (breaks up clay soil) and Bone Meal (for healthier blooms). These three products work as a team to build your soil. (For more information, ask about Johnson's Soil Recipe.) Something else to think about is to put down a soaker hose for a more way efficient way to water. It's a real time saver. If you lay the soaker hose now, it will be in place for spring. Now your soil is ready for bulbs layered with pansies, and of course every garden must have fall mums! After planting, finish the look of your bed and prepare it for winter with a good layer of mulch.
