Johnsons's Garden Centers Text File document-copyright 2007 PDF file available at http://www.johnsonsgarden.com/newsletter/gardentips.html Garden Tips November 2007 Marty Johnson, President, Johnson's Garden Centers & KS Certified Nursery Professional Late summer to early fall is the time of year that we attend trade shows looking for new products to offer our customers for the upcoming spring season. I am like a kid in a toy store looking at the new offerings. My problem is that I see these new items and I want them in the stores RIGHT NOW. I don't seem to understand why the companies can't show the new products one day and ship to us the next. EarthBox Planting System I did find such an item called EarthBox. The world's most revolutionary gardening system is now available to home gardeners. As quoted from their web site: "The patented EarthBox was developed by commercial farmers and proven in the lab and on the farm. Our maintenance-free, award-winning, high-tech growing system controls soil conditions, eliminates guesswork and more than doubles the yield of a conventional garden?with less fertilizer, less water and virtually no effort." We are lucky enough to be able to have the EarthBox available now for those wanting to try their hand at growing fresh vegetables inside this winter, or for giving to a favorite gardener for Christmas and let them get an early start on next year's tomatoes. Stop by the stores to see a planted EarthBox, or go to www.earthbox.com for details. Marty's Tool Time Guys are tool freaks. I am always looking for the newest and most clever tool on the market. Multi-tools are my favorite, whether it is the newest compact toolfor my bike, or a multi-tool for my belt to have "just in case" a string needs to be cut, or a screw tightened. We came across the newest thing from the Leatherman Company. They are the ones that started it all. Last year it was the Hybrid Tool, a combination of eleven tools in one. This year, it is the Leatherman Genus. They tell us at www.leatherman.com about the tool: "Rotate your thinking. This new landscape multi-tool features an industry-first: A rotating handle that stores a full set of professional tools. Just push the button and flip the handle around and you'll find a knife, Phillips screwdriver, sprinkler head adjustment tool/flat screwdriver, bottle opener and a very aggressive saw." So if you are thinking about a gift for your favorite tool freak, and he is a gardener, check out the new Leatherman Genus. Things To Do Before Winter: - Plant the remainder of my spring flowering bulbs. - Dormant seed fescue in spots that I did not get seeded last month. - Apply the third and final ferti-lome Winterizer. - Spray Hi-Yield Super Killzall in landscape areas to kill fall germinated weeds and apply Hi-Yield Turf & Ornamental Weed Preventer to control other weeds from germinating.
