Johnsons's Garden Centers Text File document - copyright 2002 PDF file available at http://www.johnsonsgarden.com/newsletter/kidsgardening.html Gardening with Kids April 2002 Jan Decker, Junior Gardeners' Club Coordinator Now is an exciting time to visit the garden center. Our greenhouses are brimming with color. Over spring break my six-year-old grandson came by the office to take me to lunch and when we came back he wanted to go see "stuff." So on a cold, windy day we entered the atmosphere of a tropical garden. We found seed trays with little sprouts just emerging, plants in various stages of development, unusual shapes and textures and gorgeous color. His favorite area was by the waterfall, watching the fish in the pond. You might want to bring the kids in to look at the bedding plants so they can see what the plants look like, then get the seeds to start their own plants. Herbs, veggies and annuals will provide the most growing success. The next few weeks at Johnson's offer many opportunities for you and the kids to get a good start on this planting season. Kids of all ages love coming to our annual Fill-A-Flat Sale and picking out flowers for the garden. Your older children would enjoy attending some of our seasonal seminars with you. And be sure to look for us at the Garden Party at Botanica, May 17 to participate in the fun activities.
