But if it isn't fun, it will be hard to keep their interest. So that's why we are having a pumpkin growing contestÑfor fun! Many of our junior gardeners have already planted their pumpkin seeds and are tending to their little sprouts. But it's not too late for your kids to get involved. Use the form below to get the seeds and also to sign up for the Junior Gardeners' Club newsletters and birthday club. Extra forms are available in the store if you need to register more than one child in a family. To determine whose summer effort wins the prize, kids should bring in their largest pumpkin to be weighed and measured between Sept. 24 and Oct. 15. Even if your child doesn't grow a prize-winning pumpkin the experience of trying will be fun, plus the pumpkins are still full of treasures long after the contest is over. Use the pumpkins for fall decorating; and the hundreds of seeds found inside are great for counting games, stringing a necklace or roasting for a snack.
