Johnsons's Garden Centers Text File document - copyright 2002 PDF file available at http://www.johnsonsgarden.com/newsletter/kidsgardening.html Gardening with Kids March 2002 Jan Decker, Junior Gardeners' Club Coordinator We put our children in helmets and knee pads to play; regulations on car seats keep getting more stringent; and warning labels are on everything. Even though we usually think of the garden as a safe place, it certainly isn't child proof either. Just as we instruct kids about looking both ways before crossing the street and not touching a hot stove, we need to teach them what's safe and what's not in the garden. Whether you are supervising a toddler who feels everything with his mouth or an older child using real tools, remember to use your common sense, keep a watchful eye, and the garden will be a place of nourishment, learning, fun, and solace.
