Despite the forecast, live like it's spring.
Hello, again!
Before the days of the ferti-lome brand, back in the 1970s, Johnson’s carried many other brands of fertilizers and weed/insect controls. The brand of crabgrass preventer in our store was called 'Pax', which had two different products. 'One Year Pax' lasted one year and 'Three Year Pax', which contained arsenic, lasted three years (with one application!) Gard’N-Wise was our distributor, and Bob Wise, the marketing genius he was, came up with the tagline 'Pax & Relax'. This sparked a contest for all of their accounts. Whoever could come up with the best Pax store display would win a brand new color TV - which you know we Johnson boys were excited about!
Dad came up with our display. When you walked into the store, there was a huge tower of Pax bags from floor to ceiling with a hammock hung between two trees and a square of fake grass underneath. Relaxing in the hammock was a mannequin dressed as our dad, Harold Johnson, complete with sunglasses, jean shorts and a Hawaiian shirt. Needless to say, we won our very first color TV.
While neither version of Pax is available now, the crabgrass control we use and recommend is ferti-lome For All Seasons. Apply it now and water it in for season-long crabgrass control. Sorry, hammock not included.
With our 35th Annual Fill-A-Flat Sale just around the corner (April 17-21), you can pre-order flats online of your favorite annuals now through April 10 and pick them up during the sale. It’s a great way to make sure you get your favorites at the flat sale price.
Stop by and see what else is in store for your garden and landscape this spring! As always, if you have any questions, need advice on what to plant where, or need help getting started in your garden, we are here and happy to help!

Marty Johnson
