Individually we are one drop; Together we are an ocean.
Hello, again!
You’ve heard me say it before: riding my bike through the southwest part of our country really brings home the importance of how precious our water supply is. Water is the lifeblood of everything we do. Water is our most important resource. Without it, life does not happen or go on.
While I was visiting with my Wichita City Council representative Maggie Ballard recently, the topic of water conservation came up. With the current drought conditions we are experiencing in our area, the need for citizens and municipalities to use water wisely is as important now as ever in the past. You’ve heard me talk about Xeriscaping, mulching, drip irrigation, rain barrels, and innovations like Hydretain and Soil Moist. There are many smart watering practices, but during times of extreme heat and drought our lawns and landscapes can suffer, and many times plants such as trees and shrubs go into what I refer to as ‘survival mode’ and defoliate. Our turf in these conditions suffer as well.
As the temperatures cool down in the fall, our lawns and landscape plants should recover nicely - but it never hurts to give them a boost. An application of organic-based Milorganite Fertilizer as the temperatures become more favorable will assist in the recovery of our landscape plants.
Milorganite is basically a bag of dried microbes. This unique fertilizer is created from heat-dried microbes that have digested organic matter in wastewater. Milorganite is a non-burning, slow release fertilizer that feeds for up to 10 weeks. It can be used on lawns, flowers, vegetables, shrubs, and trees. Try it when seeding grass, too.
Well, all of us who rode the Tour Divide for HumanKind made it home and that means it's time to catch up with friends, talk highs and lows of the Tour Divide experience, and bring our fundraiser for HumanKind to a conclusion. So, you are all invited to join us for a social at White Crow Cider Company from 5pm to 8pm on August 7th.
Here's the plan:
5pm to 6pm - Start socializing and enjoying some of the best hard ciders known to man! We will also have Argentina's Empanadas Food Truck on site to stave off starvation.
6pm to 6:30pm - Hear highs and lows from the riders who tackled the Tour Divide 2024. Learn from our mistakes and share some Q&A.
6:30pm to 8:00pm - Even more socializing, cider and empanadas.
Don't miss this beautiful opportunity to hang out with some great folks and hear about some adventure... Trust us, some of this is best lived vicariously! We can't wait to see you there!
