It's time to play with plants. Join our Terrarium Workshop this weekend!
Hello, again!
What popular song has the oldest written lyrics of any other number one pop hit? I’ll give you a hint. The lyrics were written sometime from the 10th to 3rd centuries BC. Do you give up? It’s from the book of Ecclesiastes. I'm sure you can hear the song by now. Perhaps it's even stuck in your head.
Turn, Turn, Turn by The Byrds was released in 1965. The lyrics are almost straight out of the King James Version of the Bible, but adapted to fit the song. The song’s peace and tolerance message connected with the American public as the Vietnam War escalated. The only part of the song not from the Bible is the title, Turn, Turn, Turn, and the final line, 'A time for peace, I swear it's not too late,' written by Pete Seeger.
We’re approaching the turn of the season in the yard and garden. It’s about time to plant for cool season turf, fall garden mums, winter hardy pansies, trees, shrubs and spring flowering bulbs. This transition time is a great time for a few gardening projects as well.
Our warm-season turf will benefit from the first of two or three ferti-lome Winterizer applications - now, then a month later and again in November. With an analysis of 25-0-6, it’s formulated for our region with the addition of trace elements. Winterizer will pay dividends in the spring when your lawn is healthier and more disease-resistant - even after a long, cold winter. Trees, shrubs, ornamental plants and evergreens will also benefit from a fall application of Winterizer.
A few summer weeds are at their peak now and can be tough to control. I’ll apply ferti-lome Weed Free Zone which is our quickest working broadleaf weed killer, and is strong enough to kill mature weeds in your lawn. It controls over eighty of the toughest-to-control broadleaf weeds. Weed Free Zone is formulated to work well in the cooler temperatures of fall. Use it in fescue, Kentucky bluegrass, ryegrass, Bermudagrass, zoysia, and buffalograss - without harming the grass.
Nutsedge, or nutgrass, is particularly difficult to control. Pulling it simply encourages more growth, and it takes a selective (or targeted) weed killer to control it. We use ferti-lome Weed-Out Nutsedge Control. Weed-Out Nutsedge kills both yellow and purple nutsedge, and over fifty other broadleaf weeds in warm and cool season lawns.
There's a lot going on at the garden center, from our vibrant living fall decor (including our novelty pumpkin patch!) to our Fall Workshops and Lawn Seminars every weekend. Stop by and see us soon!
