Battling Crabgrass and Weeds? RELAX, Weed Prevention is Easy.
PAX N’ RELAX was a great marketing campaign put on in the early 1970’s that the Pax fertilizer company used to promote their PAX line of crabgrass preventers. The tagline pretty much said it all. Customers could use Pax in the spring and then relax for the remainder of the year. There was no need to deal with crabgrass in the lawn. PAX also had their Miss PAX available to retailers to help sell the product. I remember our store’s color TV winning display, with a hammock and a mannequin dressed up like Harold beside the PAX display. (Our first color TV at home!) Our friend and supplier Bob Wise from Gard-N’Wise came up with a local promotion in which we would hand out loaded dice to customers, so they could have a “no gamble” guarantee when using PAX crabgrass preventers.
Well, we don’t offer PAX anymore. While we will miss their fun promotions and attractive sales associates, we do have the next generation of crabgrass preventers with ferti-lome, so you can still RELAX after a spring application. For All-Season’s Crabgrass and Weed Preventer prevents (and actually kills) newly germinated weeds, guaranteeing you a weed-free lawn for most of the growing season. I also like to apply Hi-Yield Turf and Ornamental Weed and Grass Stopper (without fertilizer) mid-summer to ensure continued weed control into the fall season.
Another overlooked product from ferti-Lome for turf areas is their ferti-lome Weed Out Pro-Turf Plus Lawn Fertilizer. This product contains their Dimension Crabgrass and Weed Preventer as well as their Weed Out broadleaf weed killer. It’s not only effective against crabgrass, but also the Big-3 broadleaf spring weeds (dandelion, henbit, and chickweed). Making crabgrass and weed prevention as easy as one step this spring.
Walking through the greenhouse this week, I found lots of new seedlings we have started for early spring gardens. Not only are there many herb varieties for cooking, but also leafy crops such as lettuce, in a variety of assortments. These are perfect for planting in mixed containers on your spring deck or patio. These early varieties are easy to start at home. All you really need is a sunny window, seed-starting soil, clean containers, and your seeds. Within a few short weeks, you’ll be enjoying fresh food that you have grown yourself.
As we finish up our frost-tolerant pansy crop, we need to make room for our upcoming summer annuals. To help us make room, our pansies are now $.50 each for 3.5” pots, or a flat of 18 for only $10.00. Our jumbo 6-packs of violas are $10/flat, as well.
To sum it up, if you want a ‘no gamble’ way to be able to ‘PAX N’ RELAX’ this summer, come in and visit with our knowledgeable staff to get your lawn going this spring!
