Fall Sale 50% Off Trees, Shrubs, Perennials, Annuals, Pumpkins & More.
Hello, again!
Last week, my friend Kelly was in San Diego for a trip to visit friends, enjoy beach time sunsets and relax while her husband did some golfing. While they were there, the Old Town area was decorated for their upcoming Dia de los Muertos festival. This is the time of the year that San Diego celebrates the Day of the Dead with music, food and culture.
While the music and costumed dancers were incredible, Kelly also loved shopping through the local artisans, eating delicious shrimp and fish enchiladas from Barra Barra - a local restaurant, and the floral displays throughout the area. She was especially impressed with how many beautiful marigolds were used in so many different ways.
Unbeknownst to some, the marigold is considered by many in Mexico to be the “flower of the dead” because their vibrant color and fragrance is believed to guide the spirits of those who have passed before us back to loved ones still living. Families use marigolds to decorate altars, cemeteries, and homes as part of the celebration.
Marigolds are also a staple in gardens - and have some great benefits. Their strong odor repels pests like mosquitoes, cabbage worms, nematodes and deer. They are considered pollinators and attract pollinating insects like butterflies and honeybees which are so essential.
Lastly, marigolds are edible! Their flavor profile ranges from citrusy to slightly spicy, and can be used for topical treatments for skin issues like bug bites, rashes, burns and eczema! When planting marigolds, they’ll be happiest in a spot that is full sun and well drained. They don’t like soggy roots, so water them well but allow them to dry between waterings. By deadheading the spent flowers, your marigold plants will stay looking beautiful.
We’ve got marigolds at the store right now to add some end of the season color to your landscape and containers or to add to your Dia de los Muertos holiday, and the good news is that right now annuals are a part of our fall sale and 50% off. Stop by the store soon and stock up on 50% off fall mums, pumpkins, annuals, perennials, pansies, trees, shrubs and so much more!
