Hello, again!
Things stay the same but always change. Back in our analog days, our After Christmas Sale started at 7:00 AM (with a line of people to get in for the savings), and all of the math was calculated 'in our heads'. Items that were $.98 rang up at $.49, $2.98 items were $1.49 and so on. Some of us had a good time doing the math in our heads!
The store had these old NCR cash registers, the ones with rows of buttons for the amount being rang up, that kept track of the daily sales. I can still hear to this day the sound the machines made adding up the customers' sales. Being totally computerized today, as long as the bar code is correct on the item, there is no math needed to be done in our heads!
After the first of the year, our physical inventory count happened. Back then, it was a true ‘physical' count! We’d each have a tablet of paper and starting at one end of the store, the tally would happen. With hash marks after each dollar amount, Dad would tally up the inventory on his manual adding machine with the tape to keep track of the numbers.
With our point of sale system, we are now able to do our physical inventory count in one day at each store, not the countless number of days it would take us in the past. We will close our West Store on the 27th for inventory and our East Store on the 30th. Today and New Year's Eve we will close at 3:00 pm and be closed for Christmas and New Year's Day so our staff can enjoy the holidays.
This year's After Christmas Sale starts at 9:00 am on the 26th at both locations with 50% off mostly all Christmas items including ornaments, lights, novelty gifts, candles, candy and more. Fontanini figurines are also 25% off during the sale! This is a great time to save for next year's holidays.
Coming up in January is our annual Storewide Sale. Just as the name implies - almost everything in store is on sale! This is when you can save 25% off your 2025 Lawn Care Program when you order during our online early bird special, January 1-5 OR in store during Storewide Sale, January 4 & 5.
All of us at Johnson’s thank you for your support over the years. Our roots go back to 1928 when my grandfather Orie was 'truck farming' in the area.
